Mr. Fernandes practices in all aspects of transportation law (aviation, marine, trucking, rail, freight forwarding, logistics and warehousing). He advises clients on insurance and international trade and cross border issues in the transportation field.
Mr. Fernandes has been included in the Lexpert®/American Lawyer Guide as one of the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada. He’s on the list in “Best Lawyers in Canada” in the area of maritime law and transportation law. He is Chambers Canada ranked, Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent rated, and a Who’s Who Legal Canada Thought Leader in Shipping and Maritime Law. Mr. Fernandes has appeared before the courts of Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Nova Scotia, the Federal Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.
He conducts numerous mediations and arbitrations for clients and also acts as a mediator and arbitrator for other parties. He holds mediation certificates from he University of Windsor for its ADR Workshop and for its Advanced ADR Workshop and Pepperdine University for it STAR program (Systematic Approach to Mediation Strategies). He is a qualified arbitrator and obtained his Q. Arb. and FCIArb designations in 2019.
He is the author of numerous articles and seven texts on transportation and insurance law, including the three-volume “Transportation Law” published by Aerospark Press. Lexis Nexis has published three volumes by Mr. Fernandes, on Railway Law, Carriage of Goods and Maritime Law, in their Halsbury’s Laws of Canada.
